Last spring, my husband and I took a two week vacation to France (photos and stories to be featured all month!) and Paris was, without a doubt, the city over which I grew the most obsessed prior to the trip.
Like many, I dream about, fantasize, and idealize, the many corners of the Earth. Wanderlust had a serious hold on me, and I spent ample time dreaming about what Paris would be like!
I imagined the smell of baguettes while perusing stone streets; a worn book tucked under my arm just waiting to have its pages turned leisurely in a café. I longed for a sense of timelessness; for long, hot days with sweet-nothing to do. I couldn’t wait to move with ease from monuments, to markets, to museums – all day long.
Anticipation can be a wonderful thing! And as I sat at work (dreaming about croissants), I would indulge with the elegant music of Canadian singer, Jill Barber. Her album “Chansons” is filled with classic French songs including “Sous le Ciel de Paris” and “N’oublie Jamais.” Get ready to be transported to a simpler, more romantic era!
“Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jill Barber’s smoky, soulful voice with its distinctive jazz phrasing has made her a kind of alt-cabaret favorite on Canada’s folk scene, and her top-notch songwriting is a thing to behold, very nearly in Joni Mitchell territory.” – itunes bio
Enjoy, what I believe to be, the sound of Paris! I hope it builds your anticipation for all my rather luvly French adventures to follow soon. Avec Amour…
