Every year at Easter my mother, sister, and I gather round our dining room table to gently unwrap and display dozens of intricately decorated eggs. Each egg is unique, with colours and patterns that inspire new decorating ideas year after year!
The eggs I’m sharing with you today are especially meaningful to my family because they were all lovingly painted by my grandfather, Ursus. Each year he would design and create one new egg as a keepsake for my grandmother, Eva. A single egg would take him hours of patience, artistry, and love! Some eggs (like the ruby red one below) have dedications etched into the shell, and most are dated – at least one has endured since the 1960’s! Although both Ursus and Eva have passed away now, I am totally inspired by the love that they shared when I hold and admire these painted treasures!
Tip: When decorating this Easter, mix heirlooms and antiques with fresh pieces for a table-setting that pays tribute to your own family!
I think it’s safe to say that by the time Easter rolls around we’re all itching to invite colour back into our lives! Now is the perfect time to delight guests and brighten your home with the abundant colours of Spring . The following eggs are a vibrant and cheery selection – my grandfather certainly didn’t shy away from unexpected colour combinations! I’m a big fan of pairing hot pink and navy.
Happy decorating luvlies!
